Types of Workers' Compensation Benefits

There are four main types of workers' compensation benefits, which are listed below.

• Once an employer agrees that a person was injured on the job, the employer is responsible for paying all medical bills that stem from the injury or the aggravation of an existing condition that was caused by the workplace injury.
• Temporary total disability benefits: Two-thirds of your weekly wage is to be paid until the employee is able to go back to work.
• Vocational rehabilitation/retraining: If you are so disabled that you can never again return to the type of work you were doing, your employer is responsible for providing retraining or schooling to help you get another job.
• Permanent partial disability payments: After the injured employee has been treated, if there are lasting problems or issues, then there is some permanency of the injury. Because this is an ongoing payment, this is often disputed by the employer. There are straightforward guidelines as to how to compensate an injured employee, based on the body part that was injured and the disability rating. However, often the insurance company's doctors find a different disability rating than the employee's doctor. In those cases, there are two options: try to settle or file for a hearing before the Workers' Compensation Commission Board. Then the board will decide.

After a Workers' Compensation Commission Decision
