6 Tips for Giving Your Best Testimony

Honest and Detailed

Follow these tips to help you give your best testimony at your disability hearing:

  1. Tell The Truth. Always, without fail. If you lose your credibility with the judge, your case is as good as lost.
  2. Spare No Details. This is your opportunity to tell the judge why your condition prevents you from working.
  3. Use Your Own Words. Don't try to explain the medicine or use medical jargon.
  4. Speak Up. If you don't understand the question ask for clarification.
  5. Do Not Confront the Judge. Don't let your frustration with the Social Security System spill over onto the judge.
  6. Talk to the Judge Like an Old Friend… who asks, "How have you been?"
