Tips for Building a Strong Medical Record

Building Your Case

Hi, my name is Dave Steinberg. I'm an attorney, and one of the areas I concentrate on is Social Security Disability. Medical evidence is the cornerstone of every successful claim for Social Security Disability benefits. With that in mind, here are some practical tips to help you build a strong medical record in support of your claim.

  1. Be a reliable patient. This helps build a record of consistent medical treatment over an extended period of time.
  2. Track your treatment. Keep a journal and calendar that can serve as a treatment timeline.
  3. Pay attention to the paperwork. Always provide accurate, current, and complete information.
  4. Stay in touch with your local Social Security office.
  5. Talk to your doctors.
  6. Request a copy of your medical evidence file in advance of your hearing.
  7. Talk to a disability attorney.
